individual development plan

The individual development plan (IDP) is a tool for NAVFAC employees to define their career goals and identify learning and development opportunities to support their career planning. NAVFAC utilizes the IDP tool in Waypoints. Access Waypoints here to initiate your IDP.

Completing your individual development plan

Within your IDP, you will summarize career goals, identify technical and non-technical development objectives, and specify which development activities you’d like to pursue to meet your goals and requirements. Here’s how to access and complete your IDP:

  1. Take the Employee Competency Assessment (ECA) in Waypoints and use it to drive your IDP

  2. Explore learning and development activities that align with your goals through your ECA recommendations, Waypoints Events Calendar, and your Community Management Plan

  3. Complete your IDP in Waypoints

  4. Submit your IDP to your supervisor in Waypoints, and schedule time to review it together.

    1. Data from all IDP submissions will be used to shape the SYSCOM-wide training initiatives and decisions for FY25.

  5. Launch your learning and development and track your progress!

  6. Throughout the year, also be on the lookout for additional career development opportunities such as Mentor pairing and Rotation assignments!
