Italian National Retires After 43 Years with U.S. Navy

NAPLES, Italy – Naval Facilities Engineering Command Europe Africa Southwest Asia and Public Works Department Naples, Italy will bid farewell to Italian national, Angelo Capuozzo, who is retiring at Naval Support Activity (NSA) Naples after 43 years of service, Dec. 31.

Capuozzo started working with the U.S. Navy in 1972 at Naval Air Facility Capodichino, then NSA Agnano and lastly his place of retirement, NSA Naples Capodichino. He has worked as a maintenance mechanic, specialized air conditioning mechanic, air conditioning mechanic leader, dynamics shop supervisor and shop leader supervisor. 

One of his fondest memories is the honor of assisting with the recovery and transport of those lost during the bombing of Lebanon in 1986. Another fond memory Capuozzo had was the preparation and precautionary measures taken in the event of potential Y2K impact. 

Capuozzo’s quest for knowledge afforded him the opportunities to attend several schools and training courses around the world such as the NAVFAC Civil Engineer Corps Officer School for Overseas Hazardous Waste Generator at Port Hueneme, Calif.; Boiler Training in Norfolk, Va.; Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning training in Norfolk, Va.; Enterprise Building Integrator Operator in Minneapolis, Minn. and the Electrical Explosives Safety Course in Sigonella, Sicily. 

After retirement, Capuozzo plans to visit his daughter, Melanie in Rome and continue his hobby of building boats. He hopes to transfer his experience of all these years to someone else and eventually travel the world on his own boat.
