Jacksonville, Fla. - Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southeast awarded an $10 million contract July 1 to HITT Contracting, Inc. of North Charleston, S.C. for construction of airfield security upgrades at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS), Beaufort, S.C.
“The P-472 Airfield Security Upgrades are another key component in preparing MCAS Beaufort for transition to the F-35 Lightning II,” said MCAS Beaufort Commanding Officer Col. Brian C. Murtha. “These upgrades will support the F-35 program's infrastructure needs and ensure we continue to vigorously protect our nation's resources.”
The work to be performed provides for installation of security fencing, motorized vehicle gates, turnstiles, associated communications lines, relocation of Drayton Street, parking spaces, and rerouting of Moore Street.
The fence line is one of the pieces of the puzzle necessary to achieve level II for airfield security, which is a requirement for the F35.
Work for this project is expected to be completed by March 2014.
