Mayport, Fla. – Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southeast’s Public Works Department Mayport presented a Safety Through Awards and Recognition (STAR) program award to Orion Marine Construction, Inc. March 5 for achievements in safety.

“As we strive to deliver a quality product, on time and within budget, we must not lose sight of safety as our number one priority,” said Cmdr. Phillip Lavallee, Naval Station Mayport Public Works Officer. “As the contracting agent, we work closely with all contractors to ensure a safe work environment and compliance with the contract.”

The STAR award is a significant achievement and is awarded only to those companies that demonstrate a proactive corporate safety posture in protecting its most valuable resource – its people.

"Orion Marine Construction is honored to receive the prestigious PWD Mayport Star Safety Award from the U.S. Navy, said Mark Stauffer, President and Chief Financial Officer, Orion Marine Construction, Inc. “This is a significant achievement and a proud accomplishment for our dedicated hard-working team. There is no doubt, our most valuable resource is our people and we strive to provide the safest working environment possible."

Safety achievements from the Orion team include zero DART incidents throughout the life of both contracts while accomplishing over 200,000 man-hours of complex and inherently dangerous waterfront construction. There was no significant contractor or government property damage, no safety non-compliance notices or stop work orders and no findings identified during Operational Safety and Health Administration compliance inspections.
