With this call to action, Rear Adm. Dean VanderLey, Commander, U.S. Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Atlantic set the tone for a day-long industry day that laid the foundation for an aggressive $1.7 billion military construction (MILCON) program to restore Marine Corps Base (MCB) Camp Lejeune and Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point, N.C. in the wake of Hurricane Florence.
“I relieve you, sir.”
With those simple, yet time-honored words, Rear Adm. Dean VanderLey relieved Rear Adm. Darius Banaji as Commander, Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Atlantic and Fleet Civil Engineer, U.S. Fleet Forces Command during a change of command ceremony conducted on the front lawn of the Lafayette River Annex on August 6, 2019.
NORFOLK, Va. – 18 volunteers of Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Atlantic, armed with gloves and trash bags, braved temperatures in the mid-90s to patrol the south bank of the Lafayette River on May 31, in search of trash and debris in support of the 31st Annual Clean the Bay Day.

The 2018 Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Atlantic awards were presented to the top Process Improvement and Product and Service teams.
NORFOLK, Va. (NNS) -- The clash between the frigates USS Constitution and HMS Guerriere was one of the first major encounter of the War of 1812. Although equally rated, and carrying the similar armaments, The American-built Constitution had a secret weapon that gave her an unanticipated advantage over her British adversary. Long-range cannon from Guerriere repeatedly struck Constitution, but caused little damage.
NORFOLK, Va. – The Vieques Environmental Restoration Team of Naval Facilities Engineering Command Atlantic (NAVFAC Atlantic) completed a clean sweep of environmental awards for 2018. The team received Environmental Restoration, Individual/Team Awards from the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of the Navy and the Chief of Naval Operations for their management of cleanup operations at the former Atlantic Fleet Weapons Training Area in Vieques, Puerto Rico. This marked the 2nd time the team has achieved this triple recognition in the past two years.
NORFOLK (NNS) -- In observance of Women’s History Month, Naval Facilities Command (NAVFAC) Atlantic’s Special Emphasis Women’s Committee hosted a panel discussion by women in leadership on March 27 at the command’s headquarters building. During a two-hour session, four leaders from different disciplines shared personal stories of their professional journeys before an audience of approximately 50 members of the NAVFAC Atlantic workforce.
