Commanding Officer's Bio

Captain Tim DeWitt, Civil Engineer Corps, United States Navy

Captain Tim DeWitt is a native of Oregon, Illinois. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and received his commission through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps program. He also holds a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Colorado. 

Commissioned as a surface warfare officer, he first served aboard the forward-deployed frigate USS Rodney M. Davis (FFG-60) in Yokosuka, Japan. His next assignment was officer in charge of the military detachment aboard USNS Laramie (T-AO 203) in Norfolk, Virginia. He next served as a Nuclear Propulsion Program officer recruiter in Denver, Colorado. 

In 2000, he completed a lateral transfer to the Civil Engineer Corps where his first assignment was detachment staff civil engineer for Commander, Naval Special Warfare Command, at the John C. Stennis­­ Space Center in Mississippi. Subsequent assignments include deputy resident officer in charge of construction, Gulf Coast Area, public works officer at Naval Station Great Lakes, Illinois; assistant regional engineer, Navy Region Midwest, Great Lakes, Illinois; executive officer, Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) SEVENTY-FOUR, Gulfport, Miss.; and public works officer, Fleet Activities Yokosuka, Japan. 

Captain DeWitt’s recent tours include command of NMCB FORTY, Port Hueneme, California; chief staff officer at Naval Construction Group ONE, Port Hueneme, California; executive assistant to the director, Energy and Environmental Readiness Division (OPNAV N45), Washington, D.C.; branch head for Strategic Laydown and Assessment (OPNAV N463), and operations officer for Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southwest. He commanded Naval Construction Group TWO from August 2017 to July 2019. 

Captain DeWitt is a qualified Seabee combat warfare officer, surface warfare officer, a registered professional engineer in Illinois, and is a member of the Acquisition Professional Community. His personal decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (four awards), Navy Commendation Medal (eight awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards) and other unit and service awards.
