Its assigned mission is to provide public works, utilities, transportation, engineering services, and other support for the operating forces of the Seventh Fleet and other commands ashore.

1967- The Public Works Center functions were expanded in 1967 when it was given the responsibility of maintenance of facilities in Yokohama. This resulted from a consolidation of the Navy Housing Activity, Yokohama, with the Public Works Center on 1 July 1967.

1972- In 1972, the Public Works Center was awarded the Meritorious Unit Commendation for its role in support of Southeast Asia.
