Public Works Department Misawa Self-Help Seabees hosted an English Program training session with local Japanese military units on board Naval Air Facilities Misawa, Japan March 17.

The session was the Seabees’ 9th, with Sendai Japanese Ground Self Defense Force (JGSDF) Hachinohe Mobile Construction Group (MCG) attending.

“The MCG is the only Naval Construction Force throughout Japan, so having them recently begin to participate in this program has built relations and set the stage for future joint training and project tasking,” said Senior Chief Petty Officer Billy Harger.

Seabees led instruction in electrical wiring, drywall installation and finishing, chemical, biological and radiological training, and Navy terminology and organizational structure. They also provided a southern-style lunch for their Japanese guests.

“It is a challenge to work a full day of training amongst five JGSDF units and MCG,” said Harger. “But each time we bid farewell at the end of each training event, the smiles on our students’ faces and eagerness to stay longer with us make it all worth the time.”
