Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Far East awarded two contracts to improve the quality of life for Fleet Activities Sasebo’s unaccompanied sailors and transient personnel Sept. 23.
A $1.3 million contract will add dehumidification capability to Bachelor Enlisted Quarters (BEQ) B98 and a $1.7 million contract will replace deteriorated sewer lines at BEQ 151 and Navy Gateway Inns and Suites (NGIS).
“These contracts will have a positive impact on the installation and 7th Fleet operations,” said Facilities Engineering and Acquisition Division Director Lt. Liwei Chen. “When sailors have comfortable, well-maintained living quarters, they are better able to focus on their mission.”
The ventilation system will be replaced at BEQ B98, which houses approximately 270 unaccompanied sailors in 79 rooms. The new system will provide fresh, conditioned outside air to meet indoor air quality standards and prevent mold growth. The $1,317,410 contract was awarded to American Engineering Corporation. Work is scheduled for completion in September 2017.
Sewer laterals and indoor sewer plumbing for BEQ B151 and the NGIS will be replaced. During construction, BEQ B151’s North-wing first-floor and NGIS East-wing first and second-floor rooms will be vacated for approximately 60 days. BEQ B151 houses approximately 770 unaccompanied sailors in 200 rooms. The $1,687,597 contract was awarded to Nippo Corporation. Work is scheduled for completion in July 2017.
