YOKOSUKA, Japan— Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Far East awarded a $7.6 million contract March 1 to repair and modernize Bldg. A61 on board Fleet Activities Yokosuka, Japan.
"This project is critical to more efficient support of Seventh Fleet through improving overall conditions for employees working in this historical building and upgrading the facility systems that support ship repair operations to today's standard,” said Public Works Officer Cmdr. Jason Wood.
Bldg. A61 is an important facility for repair of U.S. Seventh Fleet vessels. The 55,000 square-foot warehouse was built in 1917 and has been in continuous use since, with only minor repairs. This project will replace exterior siding and roofing, lighting fixtures and a door. Office spaces on the first floor will see upgrades to lighting systems and plumbing fixtures. A new fire suppression system will be installed to meet the current fire code.
The $7,652,477 contract was awarded to Oguragumi K.K., of Okayama, Japan. Work is scheduled for completion in summer 2019.
