The command hosted a kick-off meetings on board Commander, Fleet Activities (FLEACT) Yokosuka, Naval Air Facility (NAF) Atsugi, and FLEACT Sasebo Sept. 18, 19, and 21 respectively.

"Through this project, energy security will be improved and energy costs will be reduced, all while providing better quality service to tenants at these installations,” said NAVFAC Far East Commanding Officer Capt. Mike Kenney. “The improved facilities and improvements to quality of life will have a positive impact on the warfighter’s ability to accomplish their mission.”

Residents at the installations will receive improved lighting and new plumbing fixtures which will save approximately 80 million gallons of water each year.

Dual-fuel boilers will be installed at NAF Atsugi, which will reduce use of expensive fuel oil while achieving security by diversifying fuel use capabilities.  Chillers will be installed at FLEACT Sasebo residential towers, making the HVAC systems more reliable and cost-effective.

The $76,508,518 task order was awarded by NAVAC Expeditionary Warfare Center to NORESCO, LLC of Westborough, MA. Work is scheduled for completion in spring 2021.
