Captain Alexander (Al) Hutchison is a native of Honolulu, Hawaii. In 1996, he was commissioned through the Reserve Officers Training Corps program at Illinois Institute of Technology, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical Engineering. He holds a Master’s of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Hawaii. Hutchison reported aboard Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Hawaii as Operations Officer in July 2017 and became Executive Officer in April 2018.
Following completion of Surface Warfare Officer School, Naval Station Newport, Rhode Island; his first duty station was at Naval Base San Diego where he served as the Propulsions Officer and Electrical Officer onboard USS Duluth (LPD 6). Subsequent tours included: Navigator, USS Crommelin (FFG 37) Naval Station Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; Staff Civil Engineer, Assault Craft Unit 5, Camp Pendleton, California; Assistant Resident Officer in Charge of Construction, Newport, Rhode Island; Assistant Public Works Officer, Navy Region Hawaii, Hawaii; Engineer Mentor Embedded Training Team, ISAF, Herat Afghanistan; Assistant Operations Officer, NAVFAC Hawaii; Training Officer, Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 40, Port Hueneme, California; Training Officer, 31st Seabee Readiness Group, Port Hueneme, California; Planning Programming, Budgeting, and Execution Section Head, Chief of Naval Operations (N46), Washington D.C.; Public Works Officer, Naval Support Facility Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory, and Commanding Officer, Naval Construction Training Center Port Hueneme, California.
Hutchison is a Seabee Combat Warfare Officer and Surface Warfare Officer, registered professional engineer in the State of Hawaii, member of the Society of American Military Engineers, and of the Defense Acquisition Corps. His decorations include Meritorious Service medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and other personal and unit awards.
