Cultural Resources

The Cultural Resources Program at NAVFAC Southwest manages 425 historic buildings, 10 historic district and more than 20,000 archaeological sites across the region in areas as diverse as the coast of Monterey to the Nevada desert to the Channel Islands. The program’s mission is to provide cultural resources subject matter expertise to ensure that local, state, and federal requirements are adhered to in a manner consistent with the Navy’ mission of national defense. The NAVFAC Southwest Cultural Resources Program manages and maintains the historic buildings, structures, objects and archaeological sites in its care according to the requirements of Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the treatment of historic properties while ensuring the military mission of the United States Navy.

Hanger 7 - NAS Fallon
Hangar 7 at NAS Fallon was constructed in 1944 and was found eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places in March 2011 for its association with the World War II period at NAS Fallon, as a representative type of wood-frame and wood truss hangar construction from that era, and as one of the two World War II-era hangars remaining in Nevada.

Bard Mansion - NBVC
The Thomas R Bard House on Naval Base Ventura County was constructed in 1912 as the residence of Thomas Bard who was a Civil War veteran, Senator and city father of Hueneme, California. The Bard estate was designed by Los Angeles architect Myron Hunt in the Italian Renaissance Revival style. It was determined to be eligible for the National Register of Historic Places in May of 1999.

Hotel Del Monte - NSA Monterey

The Hotel Del Monte on Naval Support Activity, Monterey is eligible for the National Register of Historic Places under criterion A for its association with the pattern of luxurious seaside resorts that were popular in California during the railroad age of the 19th century. It is also eligible under criterion C as the work of master architects Lewis P. Hobart and Clarance A. Tantau.
