Environmental Products and Services

We are one of the Department of the Navy’s environmental centers providing engineering, scientific, and technology support in environmental compliance, restoration, pollution prevention, sustainability, and climate change.

Code EV - Environmental Department Overview:

We are one of the Department of Defense's (DOD) leading environmental centers, providing engineering, scientific, and technology support in environmental compliance, environmental restoration, pollution prevention, sustainability, and climate change. We work within the NAVFAC Environmental Business Line offering expert services to the Chief of Naval Operation (CNO/N45), NAVFAC and its component commands, and other supported commands.

Partnering with Systems Commands and other DOD and governmental agencies to leverage best-value technologies and business practices, NAVFAC EXWC - EV is the Navy representative to the Tri-Service Environmental Center Coordinating Committee. Our products and services make a significant contribution to the Naval Warfare Enterprises for their ashore environmental needs.

We support NAVFAC and its components within two product lines: Environmental Quality and Environmental Restoration. Work within both product lines includes both centrally funded and reimbursable tasks.

Marine Resource Assessment Dive Services (M-RADS): EV maintains technical diving (SCUBA, Surface-Supplied, UXO Level II) and underwater ecological regulatory compliance consultation services to facilitate and streamline planning and accomplishment of military at-sea testing, range sustainment, training, and marine construction for our supported commands.  Additionally, MRADS maintains a rapid response survey capability to deploy near-shore natural resource SMEs in support of contingencies such as vessel groundings and emergent waterfront facility repair within sensitive marine ecosystems.  In addition to general marine and coral reef ecosystem ecology, specialized skills include remote passive acoustic monitoring, bioacoustics, underwater explosive shock and SONAR impulse propagation, SONAR-enabled benthic habitat geo-referencing of incident sites, and data analysis.

Climate Change Initiative: We have established a climate change initiative to evaluate technology-based solutions to problems arising from increasing greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere. Preliminary efforts are underway in following areas: sea level rise and its impact on shore facilities, carbon sequestration at power/heating plants, and hurricane abatement. In addition, EV is working with other Departments at NAVFAC EXWC on more mature technology programs in related areas including sustainable infrastructure, LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification for buildings, alternative energy systems, energy conservation techniques, and the alternative fuel vehicles program.
