QUANTICO, Va. (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command Washington constructed a building to house the Marine Corps Operations Center, which was dedicated on board Marine Corps Base Quantico April 19.
The building, which houses command offices and administrative facilities, meets complex communications requirements, is anti-terrorism force protection compliant and has achieved a LEED Silver rating for sustainable design.
"NAVFAC had the opportunity to provide a state-of-the-art facility in support of meeting the critical mission of information technology for the Marine Corps," said Kim Crawford, construction manager, Resident Officer in Charge of Construction. "We are honored to share in the dedication of this facility to General Lewis Walt."
The Marine Corps Information Operations Center was dedicated in honor of General Lewis W. Walt who served in World War II, Korean and Vietnam, earning some of the highest awards for his acumen in combat and for his service to the country.
A contract for the design and construction was awarded in Sept. 2010 for $27.7 million.
