PEARL HARBOR (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Pacific participated in the 2013 Feds Feed Families Campaign for the second consecutive year to help feed local families in Hawaii.

"I really like this program a lot because the focus is local resources applied right here in Oahu," said NAVFAC Pacific Vice Commander Capt. Pete Lynch. "We are all facing personal challenges associated with sequestration and the furlough, but there are a lot of people facing much tougher challenges and they need our help."

NAVFAC Pacific partnered with Commander Navy Region Hawaii (CNRH) and other local federal agencies to collect canned goods and non-perishable food items for families in need.

NAVFAC Pacific contributed a total of 457 pounds of donated food drive items.

"I want to personally thank everyone for contributing to the annual food drive," said Lynch. "The generosity shown through your donations, big or small, makes a difference. Thank you for continuing to support our local families."

Families in Hawaii will receive these items through organizations such as the Hawaii Food Basket, River of Life, the Institute for Human Services, AWANA Club and the Hawaii Food Bank, which is consistent with program regulations.

"This year we received an overflow of support from all federal partners in Hawaii," said Information Systems Technician 2nd Class (SW) Jennifer Miller, CNRH campaign representative. "We've exceeded last year's contribution with over 46,000 pounds of donations. Thank you to NAVFAC Pacific for your continued support this year."

The fifth annual Feds Feed Families Campaign is a voluntary charitable campaign led by Commander, Navy Installations Command, which runs from June 1 through Aug. 31.
