NAVFAC Southeast awards $9.8 million contract for new Ground Support Equipment Shop for the Marines

Jacksonville, Fla. (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southeast awarded a task order for $9.8 million August 8 to Brady-Fluor LLC, a small business from San Diego, Calif., for the construction of a new Ground Support Equipment Shop at Marine Corps Air Station, Beaufort, S.C.

"This is the first task order issued under a $240 million indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity multiple award design-build construction contract awarded to six small businesses for construction projects located primarily within the NAVFAC Southeast area of responsibility [primarily for South Carolina and Georgia]," explained Kendra McMahon, NAVFAC Southeast contract specialist.

Work for the first task order is expected to be completed by August 2014.

The six companies are Brady-Fluor LLC; Drace Anderson Joint Venture, Gulfport, Miss.; GFP-Yates, Joint Venture, San Antonio, Texas; Group III Mgt Inc., Kinston, N.C.; Leebcor Services LLC, Williamsburg, Va.; and Old Veteran Construction Inc., Chicago, Ill.

Seventy-five percent of the work will be completed in South Carolina and 25 percent will be completed in Georgia.

The six companies may compete for task orders under the terms and conditions of the awarded contract. The term of the contract will not exceed 36 months and work is expected to be completed by August 2016.

NAVFAC Southeast continues its efforts to offer opportunties to small businesses.

"We continue to review all projects for potential small business opportunities," said Nelson Smith, NAVFAC Southeast small business manager.

Each year NAVFAC establishes target goals are established for Small Business, Small Disadvantaged Business, Historically Underutilized Business Zone Small Business, Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business, and Women-Owned Small Business categories. Smith explained that the maximum practicable utilization of small business concerns is a matter of national interest with both social and economic benefits.
