PEARL HARBOR (NNS) - The Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Pacific Contingency Engineering team completed construction on a three-story, 300-person barracks facility Feb. 27 for the Indonesia Peace and Security Center (IPSC) in Indonesia.

The $2.6 million barracks facility was awarded in September 2010 and will be utilized to train nearly 4,000 personnel annually on peacekeeping and counterterrorism. The center also serves as the Indonesia National Defense University.

"This facility greatly benefits U.N. peacekeeping missions in the region and fosters improved partnerships between allied governments," said Lt. Cmdr. Aaron Park, NAVFAC Pacific Site Thailand resident officer-in-charge of construction (ROICC).

The Indonesian military is the largest contributor to U.N. peacekeeping missions in Southeast Asia.

"I feel great satisfaction knowing this facility will help our allies and other regional forces train and enhance their capabilities to support and maintain peace in the country," said Andreas Adihartanto, ROICC engineer and contracting officer representative, NAVFAC Pacific.

"I have a great sense of achievement knowing that as a team we delivered this facility on time and within budget," added Adihartanto.

Park said several key leaders toured the barracks Feb. 9 demonstrating continued commitments and partnerships.

The visit was conducted by Commander, U.S. Pacific Command Adm. Samuel Locklear III who was accompanied by the U.S. Ambassador to Indonesia Scot Marciel and the IPSC Command Brig. Gen. Imam Edy Mulyono.

This project was funded by the Global Peace Operations Initiative (GPOI) program, and phase II is expected to be awarded in May 2013 to construct a similar barracks in the region.
