YOKOSUKA, Japan (NNS) -- An employee of the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) received a lifetime service award at Naval Air Facility (NAF) Atsugi, Japan's Public Works Department (PWD) Atsugi, April 25.
Ronald Matsuo received the Peggy B. Craig Life Service Award, an annual NAVFAC award given to individuals who best personify a career of "service, selflessness and dedication" to NAVFAC, the 1st Naval Construction Division, the Center for Seabees and Facilities Engineering, or any subordinate unit.
Matsuo, who currently serves as the project management and engineering branch head for NAVFAC Far East's Public Works Department Atsugi, began his career with NAVFAC in 1974.
It's a huge honor for me to receive such a tremendous award," Matsuo said. "It seems that a lifetime is a long time, but it really wasn't for me. I've worked with teams of professionals here at NAVFAC Far East and the former Public Works Center (PWC Pearl Harbor), which made the time go by so quickly. I would like to thank all those who have helped me throughout my long career."
Matsuo started his 39-year career as an electrical engineer/designer at PWC Pearl Harbor, and his experience also includes assignments as an electrical engineer/designer branch manager, an engineering director and his current position as project management and engineering branch manager.
"Ron is a consummate professional, talented engineer and mentor," said Lt. Cmdr. Jeff Sherwood, PWD Atsugi public works officer. "He makes a difference daily, in both the engineering profession and the lives of those around him."
