SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest awarded Bilbro Construction Company Inc. of Escondido an $11 million firm-fixed-price task order under a multiple award construction contract March 24 for a tracked vehicle maintenance cover at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC) Twentynine Palms, Calif.
"P-105 is the last of the MILCON projects that completes 1st Tanks Battalion's maintenance compound which will enable them to maintain their equipment for combat readiness," said Lt. Cmdr. Ernesto S. Padilla, NAVFAC Southwest resident officer in charge of construction (ROICC) at Twentynine Palms. "First Tank Battalion will increase by one company; therefore, the existing First Tank Battalion facilities will be too small. The Grow the Force plan constructs adequate space for the reinforced battalion and allows their current space to be used by 3rd Combat Engineer Battalion."
Bilbro Construction Company Inc. will provide design, engineering, and construction of primary and supporting facilities for the "P-105" 1st Tank Battalion's tracked vehicle maintenance cover project. The project will construct vehicle maintenance shelters for tracked vehicles and organizational parking to support relocation of the 1st Tank Battalion in order to support the standup of the 3rd Combat Engineering Battalion. Maintenance shelters shall be free-standing, cantilevered, steel structures, open on all sides and covered with a metal roof. The structures will be equipped with photovoltaic systems, data conduits, air compressor and compressed air piping system, potable water utilities, electrical outlets, and lighting. Built-in equipment includes a filter cleaning system, storage lockers, and a tool cage.
Work will be performed in Twentynine Palms, Calif. and is expected to be completed by December 2015. Contract funds are from fiscal year 2012 Navy military construction (MILCON) funding. NAVFAC Southwest is the contracting activity.
