NORFOLK (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command Mid-Atlantic awarded an $11.7 million contract to H.V. Collins Company of Providence, Rhode Island, July 31, for renovations at the Hewitt Hall Research Center of the Naval War College at Naval Station Newport.

According to Len Topp, the project manager, the renovations will take place in three of the five floors of the building.

"The renovation includes converting the parking garage, which is located below the library into high density book storage," he said. "This will relieve the facility from the need to use of off-site book storage.

He added that renovations on the other two levels include upgrades to the mechanical and electrical systems and modernization of the library with improvements designed to help instructors and students at the Naval War College.

"These renovations will take place while the upper levels of the building remain operational," he added.

The project is expected to be complete by the end of 2015.
