PEARL HARBOR (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Hawaii awarded a $7.4 million contract Feb. 24 to RWT, LLC (small business), Provo, Utah, for a firm-fixed task order to construct a new low pressure air compressor plant and install new low pressure air compressors at another location at Pearl Harbor.

"This project was one of the energy saving solutions generated from a Business Case Analysis resulting from a Naval Facilities Engineering Service Center mandated audit performed in 2010," said Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PHNSY&IMF) Production Facilities and Equipment Manager Stephen Sasaki. "PHNSY&IMF and NAVFAC Hawaii, together with Pacific Fleet Forces Command, Submarine Forces U.S. Pacific, Naval Submarine Support Command determined the low pressure air operational mission requirements. The collaborative effort resulted in a solution that provides the lowest total ownership cost and highest payback period by utilizing new, smaller, more efficient variable speed air compressors. "

The work to be performed will include: constructing a new one-story structure over the existing welding slab at Facility S1161 to house two new low pressure air compressors; install new air receiver, chemical treatment system, switchgear, and fire protection system to support the new compressors at S1161; connect new compressor plant at S1161 to existing water, wastewater, low pressure air, and electrical utility systems; remove existing compressors, cooling tower, refrigerant dryer, and other support equipment from Building 641; and, install two new low pressure air compressors, a chemical treatment system, and switchgear at Building 641.

Work will be performed at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam on Oahu, Hawaii, and is expected to be completed by July 2015.

Seven proposals were received for this task order under a multiple award construction contract.
