NORFOLK (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command Mid-Atlantic awarded an $8.9 million contract June 4 to Seaward Marine Corporation of Chesapeake, Virgina for structural repairs to the trestles and pier 4 at Naval Weapons Station Earle in Colts Neck, New Jersey.
According to project manager Len Topp, the repairs will take place at pier 4 and on trestle 1A, which connect the piers and land-side of the weapons station.
"The repairs will fix deterioration that has occurred due to the constant exposure to marine environment," he said.
He added that the repairs will help maintain the structural capacity of the pier, ensure the safe transfer of materials and supplies from shore to ship.
According to Topp, the project will kick off in a couple weeks and is due to be complete in late 2015.
