NAVFAC Atlantic Honors Top Employees

NORFOLK (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Atlantic recently honored two of its outstanding employees July 21, for efforts supporting the command's mission.

For their achievements and contributions to NAVFAC Atlantic during 2014, NAVFAC Atlantic Commander, Rear Adm. Lou Cariello, named Vickie Jones as Employee of the Year and Pete Lang the Supervisor of the Year.

"There was plenty of completion and talent to choose from among the professionals here and while it is always tough to choose, the selection panel made recommendations which I heartily endorse," said Cariello.

Vickie Jones, a mechanical engineer and Renewable Energy project manager for the command's Public Works business line, has been a NAVFAC employee for 26 years, 15 of which have been with NAVFAC LANT. She serves as both a Regional Fuels program manager and project manager for Smart Grid. Jones is noted for excelling in her primary role in support of the Renewable Energy Program Office and the Secretary of Defense goal to install one gigawatt of renewable energy of by the end of 2015.

Jones has been instrumental in the successful Smart Grid Pilot study at NAVSTA Norfolk and has now become lead for the majority of the Smart Grid studies across Department of the Navy. Known to be actively engaged at all stages of the projects under her control, she meets regularly with a wide audience of supported commanders, contractors, industry, and outside parties.

Pete Lang, NAVFAC Atlantic Supervisor of the Year, is a supervisory business analyst and director of the command's Business Analyst Office. Lang has been involved in several high profile programs this year, to include the workforce shaping analysis for NAVFAC, as well as efforts to improve hiring and billet management. He was also instrumental in the decommissioning of NAVFAC Fleet Engineering Command Midwest.

Lang manages a very diverse group of professionals tasked with a variety of crucial projects, including NAVFAC's Process Driven Training team, and is recognized as a leader keen to provide his staff with ample professional development opportunities. An active and approachable manager and supervisor, he leads by example and ensures his staff is recognized for their accomplishments.
