WASHINGTON (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) announced the recipients of the 2016 Peggy B. Craig Lifetime Service Award, Jan. 26.
The award is named after Peggy B. Craig, who retired from NAVFAC in 2011 as the special assistant to the NAVFAC commander and chief of civil engineers after serving 48 years in federal civil service.
It is given each year to devoted professionals who best personify a career of service, selflessness and dedication to NAVFAC, the Naval Expeditionary Combat Command, the Center for Seabees and Facilities Engineering, or any subordinate units.
"I am extremely pleased to announce the recipients of the 2016 Peggy B. Craig Lifetime Service Award," said NAVFAC Commander Bret Muilenburg. "This year's awardees represent the very best of our public servants. Each has made a positive and enduring impact to the Department of the Navy by demonstrating unqualified and exceptional professionalism, dedication to the welfare of their organizations, and uncompromising compassion for their colleagues for more than two decades."
The 2016 Awardees are:
- Milon Essoglou, Navy Expeditionary Program Office, NAVFAC Headquarters. In his almost 50 years as a NAVFAC employee, Essoglou has delivered major programs to the warfighter and influenced the lives of thousands. He has led amphibious and advance base systems, shore facilities, weapons effects, ocean engineering, environmental, energy and expeditionary programs. Essoglou's dedication to the welfare of the organization and his colleagues has also been demonstrated by the time he has taken to mentor junior staff and freely share his knowledge and experience.
- Catherine Jones, Facilities Engineering and Acquisition Division (FEAD) Camp Pendleton, NAVFAC Southwest. Jones has worked her way from a clerk-typist in 1982 to a supervisory contract specialist today. She has become a go-to resource within the acquisition/contracting community and is known to have significantly improved acquisition execution strategies through close monitoring of client requirements, proactive gap analysis, and tireless communication with NAVFAC teammates and Marine Corps counterparts.
- Richard Kiyabu, NAVFAC Hawaii. Kiyabu has worked at NAVFAC Hawaii for more than 39 years, starting his career in 1976 as a plumber and retiring last month as a supervisory planner and estimator. He exceptionally led a public works team at Naval Base Subic Bay from 1986 to 1992, when the eruption of Mount Pinatubo June 15, 1991 severely impacted the base. Kiyabu and his team worked long hours to help in the recovery efforts. On their "off" weekends, they supported local villagers by providing and delivering critical life-sustaining resources.
- Samuel Roundtree, NAVFAC Marianas. During his 27 years at NAVFAC, Roundtree has proved to be among the best executives and leaders within the entire enterprise. He has consistently tackled organizational and personnel challenges with superb business and strategic planning expertise, and has driven the NAVFAC Marianas organization with consistent engagement and strong leadership. Roundtree closely managed employee transitions for over 600 Public Works Center employees during the outsourcing of the public works function in 1999.
- Catherine Weeks, Public Works Department (PWD) Portsmouth, NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic. Weeks started her Navy career 22 years ago as a co-op student, while pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering and raising six children. Over the years, she has become the resident expert and go-to engineer for all subsurface utility inquiries, and mentors contractor and in-house shop personnel when they encounter an unforeseen utility problem. Weeks has developed a unique reputation for helping others and solving problems, no matter the time of day or environmental conditions.
