Organization

In accordance with the National Historic Preservation Act, the Secretary of the Navy designates a Federal Preservation Officer (FPO) to coordinate Department of the Navy (DON) activities under the Act. The FPO receives direction from the Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Installations and Environment. The position of FPO is currently held by Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Environment Mr. Don Schregardus.   There are two Deputy Federal Preservation Officers, William Manley (Acting, Navy) and Dr. Sue Goodfellow (Marine Corps).

The DON Cultural Resources Program is administered through the office of the FPO while regional implementation is carried out through the Naval Facilities Engineering Command's regional field offices.   Inquiries related the Department of the Navy's Cultural Resource Program may be directed to: fpo@navy.mil
