NAVFAC Southwest Recognizes Engineers and Designers During Engineers Week 2019

SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest engineers and designers were recognized with awards and command coins from NAVFAC Southwest Commanding Officer Capt.Mark Edelson for their performance during the Engineers Week 2019 award ceremony held Feb. 20 in San Diego.

SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest engineers and designers were recognized with awards and command coins from NAVFAC Southwest Commanding Officer Capt.Mark Edelson for their performance during the Engineers Week 2019 award ceremony held Feb. 20 in San Diego.

NAVFAC Southwest 2018 Civilian Engineer of the Year was presented to Environmental Core Senior Environmental Engineer Melanie Kito. NAVFAC Southwest 2018 Military Engineer of the Year was presented to Public Works Department (PWD) Naval Base Coronado Facilities Engineering and Acquisition Division (FEAD) Director Lt. Cmdr. Amy J. Honek. NAVFAC Southwest 2018 Civilian Designer of the Year was presented to Capital improvements Core Senior Interior Designer Elane Hamer.

“We are very proud of Melanie Kito for her win of not only the NAVFAC Southwest Engineer of the Year, but also the NAVFAC Engineer of the Year,” said John Coon, NAVFAC Southwest chief engineer.

Nominees for engineers and designer of the year were presented command coins during the ceremony. Capital Improvements Core Landscape Architect Design Manager Jose Aguila, PWD Coronado Architect Construction Manager Tracy Anderson, Desert Project Management Division Interior Designer Project Manager Stephanie Asenbauer, and Coastal Project Management Division Architect Project Manager Supervisor Leeann Wootton were nominees for designer of the year. Nominees for engineer of the year included Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Miramar Industrial Engineering FEAD Director Lt. Kimberly Herm, Capital Improvements Core Civil Engineer Design Manager Cory Teller, Capital Improvements Core Geotechnical Engineer Design Manager Dr. Mike Fraser, PWD Monterey Mechanical Engineer Gary Huber, and Coastal Campus Post Construction Award Services (PCAS) Civil Engineer Sam Poling.

Command Coins were presented to NAVFAC Southwest’s newly-licensed professionals in recognition of their career milestone. The newly licensed are Public Works Core Lt. Cmdr. Robert Rutherford as registered architect, Capital Improvements Core Anthony Tambaoan as professional engineer civil, Environmental Core Base Realignment and Closure Program Management Office Paul Stoick as professional engineer environmental, Capital Improvements Core Nathan Pascale as professional engineer fire protection.
