Community Outreach
NSA Crane no longer has a Restoration Advisory Board (RAB). NSA Crane established a RAB in 1995. The purpose of the RAB was to provide a forum for exchange of information and to partner with citizens of the surrounding communities who expressed interest in the environmental cleanup activities at NSA Crane. During the next nine years, 26 RAB meetings were held. Attendees at the meetings were predominantly government and contractors. Due to the persistent demonstrated lack of citizen attendance, in 2004 it was determined that the RAB meeting format was not the proper vehicle for interacting with area residents. Subsequently, the Navy, U.S. EPA, and Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) agreed to focus efforts on providing information on the NSA Crane environmental restoration activities via the NSA Crane public websites, with the Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Public website being an excellent example of this.
