Students and Recent Grads
Whether you're currently seeking your degree or have recently finished your education, NAVFAC has employment opportunities to launch your career. Several federal government and Navy programs exist and are designed to help you transition into your professional career while you gain experience and learn from your peers. These are highly competitive positions for talented candidates; the work you'll do supports NAVFAC's mission. Entry level employees and recent graduates do real work that directly impacts the Sailors and Marines protecting our nation.
Students Internship Program
The Pathways Program is for current students and individuals accepted for enrollment in a qualifying educational program. The program is designed to attract students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions (high school, home-school programs, vocational and technical, undergraduate and graduate) with paid opportunities to work and explore Federal careers while still in school. This program exposes students to jobs in the Federal civil service by providing meaningful developmental work at the beginning of their careers, before their careers paths are fully established. The flexible nature of the program also accommodates the need to hire students to complete temporary work or projects, perform labor-intensive tasks not requiring subject matter expertise, or to work traditional “summer jobs.”
The purpose of the Pathways Program is:
- To recruit and develop talented employees to support changing agency missions, even in periods of downsizing;
-
To ensure that the Government can meet its professional, technical and administrative needs; and
-
To sustain a quality and diverse workforce.
The Pathways Program provides a clear path to Federal Internships for students from high school through post-graduate school and to careers for recent graduates, and provide meaningful training and career development opportunities for individuals who are at the beginning of their Federal service. As a student or recent graduate, you can begin your career in the Federal government by choosing the path that best describes you and where you are in your academics.
Financial Management Trainee Program
The Financial Management Trainee Program (FMTP) is a 28-month program of professional development through academic and on-the-job training. Emphasis is on practical work experience including rotational work assignments as part of the trainee's professional training. Assignments include all aspects of financial management at Navy Commands and academic training in a variety of Navy financial management operations. Upon successful completion of the 28-month program, trainees are permanently placed at the location where they have been training.
