Background
The Naval Construction Battalion Center is located within the city of Gulfport on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, roughly halfway between New Orleans, Louisiana; and Mobile, Alabama.
The center spans approximately 1,100 acres on the western side of Gulfport in Harrison County. Biloxi, the county's largest city, is seven miles to the east, and the city of Pass Christian is seven miles to the west. The city of Long Beach borders the center's western boundary. The center is fenced and all entrances are secured to restrict unauthorized personnel from trespassing onto NCBC property.
The primary mission of the NCBC today is to prepare for and support all facets of the mobilization of construction forces, including reserve units. The center provides support to the Seabee Readiness Group, Naval Mobile Construction Battalions, Naval Construction Regiments, the Naval Construction Training Center, and other tenant commands. Basic and advanced training is also provided for active duty and reserve Seabees in their specialty fields.
