Background

Naval Support Activity (NSA) Mid-South is located in the town of Millington in Shelby County, Tennessee, approximately 20 miles north of Memphis, and seven miles east of the Mississippi River. The station encompasses a total of approximately 1,600 acres and contains 773 structures and buildings.

NSA Mid-South provides logistical and operational support to the numerous commands and activities on the installation. The Navy utilizes NSA Mid-South as a regional component to better relate the installation mission and the surrounding community after being redirected under the Base Realignment And Closure (BRAC). As a former Naval Air Base, NSA Mid-South has transferred approximately 2,000 acres of land (including the airfield and surrounding area) through BRAC to local municipalities. The current mission of the installation is to support the commands on the base, while benefiting the local community of Millington, Tennessee.

Commands stationed or housed at NSA Mid-South include Navy Personnel Command, Commander Naval Recruiting Command, Defense Automated Printing Service, Defense Commissary Agency (DECA) Memphis Defense Commissary, Defense Investigative Service, Navy Manpower Analysis Center, Navy Campus Millington, Naval Criminal Investigative Service Resident Agency, Naval Reserve Readiness Command Region Nine, Naval Reserve Center, US Army Corps of Engineers Finance Center (Defense Finance and Accounting Service), U.S. Army National Guard, Flying Club, Navy and Marine Corps Relief Society.
