Restoration Advisory Board
In late 1997, the Navy established a Restoration Advisory Board (RAB) at the Washington Navy Yard. Restoration Advisory Boards are an important element of the Defense Environmental Restoration Program. The purpose of a RAB is to bring together people who reflect the diverse interests within the local community, making possible an early and continual flow of information among the community, the Navy, and environmental oversight agencies like the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the District of Columbia Department of the Energy and Environment (DOEE). The RAB is made up of local community members along with several individuals who represent the Navy, EPA, and the District of Columbia and is jointly led by a Navy Installation Co-Chair and a Community Co-Chair. RAB meetings are held annually and are open to the public.
