The Marine Resources Support Group (MRSG) is a network of environmental professionals who work in cooperation to meet the environmental planning and compliance requirements for Navy at-sea training and testing. The MRSG is headquartered at the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Atlantic and was established in 2004.

MRSG’s primary goal is to facilitate communication and cooperation among all Navy components involved in environmental planning and regulatory compliance in the marine environment. The group facilitates the sharing and use of the best available science to ensure consistent environmental compliance for Navy training and testing activities at sea. The group includes approximately 200 environmental professionals from offices within the Navy (NAVFAC, Fleets, NAVAIR, NAVSEA, ONR, SPAWAR), as well as outside the Navy (U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Marine Corps, contractors, etc.).

The purpose of MRSG is to support environmental planning and compliance with:

  • National Environmental Policy Act and Executive Order 12114
  • Endangered Species Act
  • Marine Mammal Protection Act
  • Magnuson-Stevens Fisheries Conservation and Management Act
  • National Marine Sanctuaries Act
  • Coastal Zone Management Act
