Pesticide Control Area (SWMU 9 south)
Corrective Measures Study (CMS)
The facility was used as a pesticide and herbicide storage and management area, and included a former firefighting training area.
An interim measure (IM) in 2012 removed contaminated soils.
Underground storage tanks and fuel oil contaminated soils were removed in 2013.
No further action for PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) in soil was recommended in the Supplemental Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Facility Investigation (RFI). PCBs remain in subsurface soils at concentrations >1 part per million (ppm) but <25 ppm. Per Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) regulations, a cap consisting of 2 feet of soil must remain on the subsurface contamination, so a TSCA land use control will be required for a portion of the site.
Groundwater sampling for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances was conducted in 2018 as part of a RCRA Facility Assessment (RFA). An RFA report is expected in 2019.
A CMS is currently under review by the regulators.
