Site ID, Name, and Status Background and Pertinent Documents
SWMU 09/05
Pesticide Control Area (SWMU 9 south)

Corrective Measures Study (CMS)
  • The facility was used as a pesticide and herbicide storage and management area, and included a former firefighting training area.
  • An interim measure (IM) in 2012 removed contaminated soils.
  • Underground storage tanks and fuel oil contaminated soils were removed in 2013.
  • No further action for PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) in soil was recommended in the Supplemental Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Facility Investigation (RFI). PCBs remain in subsurface soils at concentrations >1 part per million (ppm) but <25 ppm. Per Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) regulations, a cap consisting of 2 feet of soil must remain on the subsurface contamination, so a TSCA land use control will be required for a portion of the site.
  • Groundwater sampling for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances was conducted in 2018 as part of a RCRA Facility Assessment (RFA). An RFA report is expected in 2019.
  • A CMS is currently under review by the regulators.
  • RFI, January 2005; Administrative Record Files (ARF) 000965, 000966, 000967, and 000968.
  • IM, August 2012; ARF 002235.
  • IM, May 2014; ARF 002341.
  • Supplemental RFI, May 2018; ARF 002836.

  • The R-150 tank was used for the storage of spent waste solvents.
  • The R-150 tank and surrounding soil were removed in 1983.
  • A CMS is being developed to address groundwater at SWMU 9 north.
  • Resource Conservation and Recovery Act Facility Investigation, January 2005; Administrative Record Files 000965, 000966, 000967, and 000968.
