Background

DFSP Craney Island is located in Portsmouth, Virginia, encompassing 735 acres and is bordered on the east by the Elizabeth River and on the west and southwest by residential areas of Portsmouth. A dredge spoil area exists on the northern border of DFSP Craney Island and is owned and operated by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

DFSP Craney Island is the primary fuel installation for NSN. The mission of DFSP Craney Island is to receive, store, and issue fuels for Naval activities. It has served as a major fuel depot for Naval activities since the 1940’s.
