JOINT EXPEDITIONARY BASE LITTLE CREEK - FORT STORY

Environmental Restoration Program Public Website

Community Outreach

Documents prepared in support of the Environmental Restoration Program (ERP) cleanup work are housed in local Information Repositories so that the public can review and comment on the work. Some documents available for public review and comment can be accessed through the link on the Administrative Records tab.

Joint Expeditionary Base (JEB) Little Creek has been proactive in engaging the community, through use of the community relations program, throughout the ERP and Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act of 1980 (CERCLA) process. JEB Little Creek previously developed a Community Relations Plan and established a Restoration Advisory Board (RAB) comprised of members of the community, local environment group members, and state and federal officials, who met annually to keep the community informed on environmental issues at JEB Little Creek. The RAB at JEB Little Creek was initially formed in 1994 and was an integral part of the community relations program up through the construction completion milestone in fiscal year 2015.

As a result of achieving the construction completion milestone, which signifies all ERP sites at JEB Little Creek are either closed out with no further action (NFA) or have active remedies in place that are functioning as intended, and all ERP sites at JEB Fort Story being either closed out with NFA or having active remedies in place that are functioning as intended, the RAB no longer meets annually. RAB meetings may be held if requested by RAB members or determined necessary by the JEB Little Creek Tier I Partnering Team.

Community involvement will continue to include updating the administrative record with all site documents through the Record of Decision, publishing public notices in the local newspaper, distributing fact sheets, and conducting public meetings as needed in accordance with CERCLA.
