Active duty military may not have much of an option when it comes to where they will be serving next. For Department of Navy (DON) civilians, however, it is completely voluntary and requires significant initiative to apply for positions and relocate. Anywhere.

Overseas assignments are a completely different level of voluntary commitment to serve.

In an organization comprised 23 percent U.S. government civilians, attracting qualified personnel to fill vacancies often impacts productivity. It can require the workforce that is present to take on additional tasks in order to keep pace with mission requirements.

Barry Forbes, Design and Construction Business Line Leader was the lead organizer of the event that lasted nearly two hours and drew over 70 participants from all over NAVFAC and even some from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The interest in the region was obvious and Forbes is hopeful that this will lead to recruiting more quality candidates.

“If you come to work in EURAFCENT, weather you choose a temporary duty position in Djibouti, an unaccompanied tour in Romania or opt to bring your family for a three year commitment in Spain, you will return to the United States a different person. You will have a different perspective on work, a broader view of the world and experience that will make you much more competitive for promotion. Having the opportunity to work on projects where you will collaborate with local national professionals, learn about new cultures and be able to travel to some amazing places are just a few of the advantages of working with us,” he said.

NAVFAC EURAFCENT has Public Works Departments (PWD) or a Resident Office in Charge of Construction (ROICC) in Italy; Spain; Bahrain; Djibouti; Greece; Poland and Romania and a ROICC in northern Italy. Opportunities to work with NAVFAC EURAFCENT are announced on USAJobs.gov. They recommend that interested applicants set up searches on USAJobs for alerts whenever new positions are announced.
