Cast High Explosives Fill, Building 146 Incinerator
Long-term monitoring (LTM)
Facility used for loading, demilitarization, and renovation of a variety of munitions.
Approximately 8,204 tons of soil disposed offsite as nonhazardous and approximately 137 tons of soil disposed offsite as hazardous waste due to TCE (trichloroethylene) concentrations.
Soil underlying Building 146 contains TCE above screening levels and groundwater contains TCE and four explosives (2-amino-4,6-dinitrotoluene, 4-amino-2,6-dinitrotoluene, RDX [hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine], and TNT [2,4,6-trinitrotoluene]) at concentrations above their screening levels.
Statement of Basis selected LTM of groundwater, indoor air, and surface water; land use controls to prevent use of groundwater, restrict construction of habitable buildings, and protect Building 146 floor; and seven-year reviews.
A vapor intrusion study is expected to be conducted in 2020 after Building 146 renovations are complete.
The LTM program is expected to begin in 2019.
