Long-term monitoring (LTM)
  • Facility used for loading, demilitarization, and renovation of a variety of munitions.
  • Approximately 8,204 tons of soil disposed offsite as nonhazardous and approximately 137 tons of soil disposed offsite as hazardous waste due to TCE (trichloroethylene) concentrations.
  • Soil underlying Building 146 contains TCE above screening levels and groundwater contains TCE and four explosives (2-amino-4,6-dinitrotoluene, 4-amino-2,6-dinitrotoluene, RDX [hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine], and TNT [2,4,6-trinitrotoluene]) at concentrations above their screening levels.
  • Statement of Basis selected LTM of groundwater, indoor air, and surface water; land use controls to prevent use of groundwater, restrict construction of habitable buildings, and protect Building 146 floor; and seven-year reviews.
  • A vapor intrusion study is expected to be conducted in 2020 after Building 146 renovations are complete.
  • The LTM program is expected to begin in 2019.
