NAVAL SUPPORT ACTIVITY SOUDA BAY, Greece — Public Works Department Souda Bay, Greece joined with Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Fleet Logistics Center Sigonella (FLCSI), Site Souda Bay and Naval Support Activity (NSA) Souda Bay leadership for a ribbon-cutting ceremony June 3, 2025, completing renovations of building 87.
This project, funded in 2020, increases the capabilities of NAVSUP by providing shared office space and a more efficient location.
"The renovation of this building demonstrates our enduring ability to support the Fleet and our allies here in Souda Bay," said Capt. Stephen Steacy, commanding officer, NSA Souda Bay. "We are incredibly proud to celebrate the completion of this project and provide NAVSUP with the resources they need to excel in their mission."
The $2.1 million renovation transformed the 8,500-square-foot facility into a fully compliant building, meeting Americans with Disabilities Act, Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection, and ventilation codes, ensuring a safe and accessible environment.
Beyond code compliance, the project added valuable administrative space and incorporated all essential life safety, civil, architectural, structural, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, fire protection/alarm, and communication network systems.
"This project is a vital, long-term investment in NAVSUP's ability to provide exceptional support to the fleet operating out of NSA Souda Bay," said Lt. Cmdr. Barry Ventura, NAVSUP FLCSI site director, Souda Bay. "Similar to our Marathi Pier facility, this building consolidates our operations, allowing us to better oversee our critical installation mission and provide seamless support to our ships and allies – now and for many years to come."
The project, funded by Commander, Navy Installations Command, also provides NAVSUP an allocated secure storage space for the fleet mail center, a capability new for the command.
"This renovated facility at NSA Souda Bay demonstrates our commitment to delivering impactful shore infrastructure through effective partnerships," said Lt. Katy Pekala, director, Facilities Engineering & Acquisition Division. "While seemingly a small renovation, the resulting enhancements to the installation's operational capabilities highlight the significant impact even focused projects can achieve."
Pekala added, “PWD Souda Bay's expert oversight, dedication, and seamless communication with stakeholders were crucial to delivering this vital project on time, within budget, and exceeding expectations.”
