NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering and Expeditionary Warfare Center (NAVFAC EXWC) Mobile Utilities Support Equipment (MUSE) Division has deployed three Seabee technicians to perform annual inspections on 16 pieces of power transformation and generation equipment deployed in Djbouti, Africa.

The power equipment is currently deployed across two continents in the AFRICOM and EURCOM areas of operation (AORs) encompassing 9.3 Megawatts (MW) of mobile power generation, 12.5 Megavolt Ampere (MVA) of transformation, and three 15 kilovolt (kV) switches. The power equipment located aboard Camp Lemonnier and NAS Rota permits flexibility for planned and unplanned power outages on 11kilovolt (kV) primary distribution and 380V secondary distribution circuits supporting base operations at both sites.

“Having the MUSE team out here is exceptionally helpful,” stated Chief Rapp, Utilities Manager for Camp Lemonnier. “The team goes through and inspects each unit with a fine tooth comb to ensure they are operationally ready to meet the high demand for utility back-up of vital electrical distribution infrastructure updates; we really appreciate their hard work.”

The annual inspections performed at each site contain 312 checks, not limited to mechanical, electrical and operational checks. These annual inspections are vital to ensure equipment safety and maintenance by each site as they directly impact 5th and 7th Fleets and EURAFSWA joint war-fighters located across three continents.
