From Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southeast Public Affairs
Jacksonville, Florida (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southeast awarded a $11.1 million firm-fixed-price task order to Wolverine Fire Protection, Co., August 16, for fire protection upgrades to Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) supply warehouses, located onboard Naval Air Station (NAS) Jacksonville, Florida.
The warehouses store aircraft materials and components that support NAS Jacksonville tenant commands.
“This new system will upgrade an antiquated 30 year old system,” said Joe DeCristofaro, DLA facilities manager. “It will include the base wide emergency mass notification system, dedicated water sources, new underground water support delivery systems and added control systems, which will significantly improve fire suppression capabilities.”
Water for the new sprinklers will be stored in two 250,000 gallon above ground storage tanks and will be fed by two 2,500 gallons per minute fire pumps.
The project will improve the safety of personnel working in these buildings.
DLA ensures that NAS Jacksonville tenant commands receive the right materials to perform depot level maintenance on aircraft engines, avionics, airframes and other electronic components that help the Warfighter accomplish their mission around the world.
“This new system will guarantee improved fire suppression for all DLA warehouses located at NAS Jacksonville for many years to come," DeCristofaro said.
Work is expected to be completed by February 2021.
