Community Outreach
When NSF Dahlgren was listed on the National Priorities List (NPL) in 1992, the Navy, including the NSWCDD Public Affairs Office, worked with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (VDEQ) to reach out to the neighboring communities and keep them informed of activities associated with environmental cleanup at Dahlgren. As a result, the Navy established a Technical Review Committee, which later became the Restoration Advisory Board (RAB) in 1994. The RAB is led by a community representative and a representative from the Navy. Representatives from the surrounding communities form the remainder of the RAB membership. RAB meetings are used as a forum to discuss the ongoing environmental activities at NSF Dahlgren, schedules for environmental restoration/site cleanup activities, and fiscal year goals and accomplishments. Due to the progress that has been made by the Environmental Restoration Program (ERP) at Dahlgren, RAB meetings are currently held on an as-needed basis.
