PORT HUENEME, Calif. (Feb. 1, 2019) (NNS) -- Naval Facilities (NAVFAC) Engineering and Expeditionary Warfare Center (EXWC) Mobile Utilities Support Equipment (MUSE) Division Seabee Petty Officer 1st Class Cole Einhaus (UT1 Einhaus) was awarded the 2019 Marvin Shields Award for demonstrating outstanding leadership as operations branch lead petty officer.
Marvin Glenn Shields was the first U.S. Navy Seabee to be posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his acts of heroism during the Vietnam War. The Marvin Shields Award is presented to those whose outstanding technical and leadership capabilities have risen above the call of duty.
“I am extremely honored that the command nominated me for the Marvin Shields Award,” said UT1 Einhaus. “When you work with Seabees who are the best at their trade it allows for the whole organization to succeed. I’m just lucky to be a part of it.”
Einhaus led 28 sailors on 19 global missions, accruing 1,237 man-days of mishap free work in an inherently dangerous industry. During this tenure, UT1 Einhaus managed five junior officers who were responsible for the embarkation, installation, operational testing and termination of 86 power generation and transformation assets valued at approximately $129 million. The transformed assets are now used to support surface, subsurface and deployed expeditionary forces.
“Petty Officer Einhaus’ selection for the Marvin Shields Award showcases his dedication to the country he serves and the Seabees he serves with,” said Senior Chief Petty Officer Steve Curtis. “Einhaus’ professionalism, stalwart leadership, courage and humble persona exalt exactly what it takes to be an outstanding Seabee.”
UT1 Einhaus’ responsibilities expand further than fulfilling the Navy’s mission of combat readiness. Einhaus was also responsible for training 95 personnel in the safe operations and maintenance of assets used to provide interim solutions to utility deficits both nationally and internationally.
Einhaus’ additional accolades include NAVFAC EXWC’s Sailor of the Year and NAVFAC’s Sea Sailor of the Year. Einhaus will also be recognized by the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) at their annual national conference held in Tampa Bay, Florida.
Looking onward, Einhaus’ next deployment will take him to Djibouti, Africa as a leading MUSE technician.
